Art in the time of quarantine

With this crazy year winding down I thought I'd share with you some of my students' artwork. Here is some of the art that my 5th through 8th graders created as we social-distanced by having online-learning. Beginning back in March, due to the coronavirus shutdown, we were all thrown into virtual learning so unexpectedly, but my students adjusted and tried to navigate technology to make art.

I tried to keep my students' motivation up as they learned to cope with the "new normal" of life in quarantine. Each week I gave them a choice-board with various tasks that included drawing, painting, virtual museum explorations, videos about artists, demos and even some 3D projects that they could try on their own.

Remembering that some students have little access to art supplies or to technology away from school, I tried to be flexible, creative and allow choice to give the students meaningful art experiences.

I hope these bring you as much joy as they've brought me! Stay safe & healthy, friends!
