Keeping the movers moving..
It's 90 degrees outside here in PA and May and our year is winding down. Our students just finished a month of PSSA testing, I am prepping for our annual middle school art show, and I have one class that, well, has a lot of students who NEED movement! To use this to our advantage I had students work together to paint Keith Haring grafitti-inspired murals.
First, students were broken up into groups. They then were to choose an action word from a hat and come up with two poses to turn into a painting. One of the group members laid down as the others traced the body. They all worked together to paint inside their people and add words and graffiti symbols around the bodies. Theres something about painting that is just really relaxing to students and it definitely focuses their attention in these last few weeks.
