Cha-cha-cha Chia Pets!
I have been looking into trying more STEAM-based lessons and came across the suggestion for making clay chia pets. I thought this sounded like an awesome idea since my 8th grade normally create creature vessels anyway, and still allowed me to reinforce/revisit those basic pinch-pot skills but in a new and exciting way.
My 8th grade have been creating clay creatures and in a few weeks they'll be ready for bisque-firing. I am really hoping that these turn out because they have been an almost 2 week process just to build these tiny vessels due to PSSA testing, absences, etc. and I want to give students enough time to see their plants actually grow before they graduate 8th grade and move on to greener pastures.
