Move over, Carlos, There's a new Cake boss in town

My 6th grade students were busy this week building triangular prisms out of cardboard and manipulating materials to create Wayne Theibaud-inspired Pop Art cakes. Students also began learning how to mix tints to create the "layers" of their 3D cakes, and some even got super crafty by adding fruit, toppings, candles and decorations to them. This is one of my favorite projects of all time and it turned out to be my 6th graders' as well. I was told, "Ms. I., this is by far the best project we've ever done!" #ArtteacherWinning

Believe it or not I even had students discussing Lichtenstine's comic-like work and comparing it to Theibaud's and determining why it too is classified as Pop Art. It is a proud day indeed.
