Autumn Madness
Since my 6th graders were already focusing on art from their environment (they just finished up landscapes last week), I decided to keep this outdoor inspiration theme going. With the change of seasons in PA (and thankfully, changing temperatures that we are beginning to experience), I wanted my students to get out of the classroom and find something inspiring from nature.
Cue the fall leave project.
I'm a HUGE Andy Goldsworthy fan. I introduced this artist to my youngest students because I think theres something so cool and playful about his work. Often using one type of object, Goldsworthy creates something seemingly simplistic but sophisticated and beautiful by using many of one material like twigs or rocks... or leaves.
I definitely am not reinventing the wheel here, but this project was all about finding inspiration through repetition and pattern. I am really diggin' the 6th grade's autumn leaves and warm hues. Now I just need a bonfire and some apple cider to get my weekend on.
